Cafecito y Chisme: Honest Arizona, Tucson Leaders, & Local Businesses Host Hispanic Community Roundtable

TUCSON — Honest Arizona was joined by local Hispanic leaders and business owners to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month and highlight the need for a fair tax code that strengthens working families and small businesses in southern Arizona.

The event was emceed by Pima County Chair Supervisor Adelita Grijalva, who was joined by State Representative Betty Villegas, small business owner Grace Soto, and former Arizona legislator Andrés Cano. The group discussed how policies at the federal and state level, including tax laws proposed and enacted by Republican elected officials, hurt Arizona families and small businesses.

The group agreed that replacing the 2017 GOP Tax Law — that heavily favored wealthy individuals and corporation — with a fairer tax system that makes those at the top pay their fair share  would create new tax revenue to invest in Arizona families, including by extending the ACA premium tax credits to keep lowering Arizonans’ health care costs for years to come. Those ACA tax credits are set to expire next year unless Congress acts.

“Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor and celebrate the contributions of Arizona’s Hispanic and Latinx community, those who have shaped our state in innumerable ways,” said Supervisor Grijalva. “As Latino leaders, it’s our responsibility to speak up for the people when local, state and national policies and agendas are designed to favor the top 1% at the expense of working families.”
